Saving The World, One Horse At A Time.

Hush a bye, don't you cry

Go to sleep my little baby,

In your dreams, you will ride

All the pretty rescue horses,

Dapples and grays, sorrels and bays

All the pretty rescue horses.

Faithful and brave, free as rain,

All the pretty rescue horses.

These horses were saved from slaughter.

As some of you already know, I provide sanctuary for slaughter-bound equines on our little ranch in rural Arizona. I also use my writing to bring attention to this inhumane practice, with the goal of ending the transport of America's horses to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico.

The fact is, Americans don't eat their pets; pets are family, not food. Our horses are companion animals that deserve a dignified ending no different than our dogs and cats.

If Americans don't eat their horses, foreigners shouldn't be eating America's horses, either.

If you or your family are considering buying a horse, perhaps you might consider adopting a rescue horse, instead. By offering a space in your barn and heart for one or several horses in the wrong place at the wrong time, you can help to change the world for America's slaughter-bound equines. Contrary to pro-slaughter propaganda, many equines shipped to slaughter are sound, well-trained and of good temperament.

Unfortunately, we live in a disposable society. America's horses and burros aren't immune to this sad fact. This mentality also extends to America's wild mustang and burro herds, as further explained in my blog post: Your Voice For The Wild Mustangs.

It's the voice of horse lovers everywhere that will make a difference in the future of these animals. We can join together to carve out a better, kinder future for America's equines. Whether they're domestic horses on feedlots or wild horses rounded up and eventually slaughtered, we NEED to do better by America's horses.

The BLM has mismanaged its budget for years, and now plans to lower its costs by taking aim at wild horses.

Thank you so much for signing our petition to stop the BLM from killing our wild horses. Your signatures are working – the Government Accountability Office (GAO) is reviewing concerns about the BLM's mismanagement, and should have a final report in less than two weeks!

But as the BLM's irresponsible plans are being questioned by the GAO and Congress, we need to double our efforts to let the BLM know – loud and clear – that we will not tolerate the slaughter of our wild horses!

That is why we need your help. The BLM's plan to kill the wild horses that they are holding in captivity is not mercy killing. We need to make it clear to the BLM that their budget mismanagement must not be used as a death sentence upon these mustangs. Please spread the word and help us stop this plan to kill our wild horses once and for all – ask three friends to sign our petition today!

This plan is the first time federal officials have proposed killing wild horses since Congress introduced federal protections in 1971 for America's mustangs. At that time, Congress described them as "living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West." But now our wild horses are paying the price for years of bureaucratic mismanagement.

Hi -

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced plans to kill off wild horses, arguing that they cannot "allow horses to multiply unchecked on the range without causing an environmental disaster."

But there are less than 30,000 wild horses on the American range versus at least 3 million grazing cows. The reality is that the BLM has mismanaged its budget and is now trying to lower its costs by taking aim at wild horses.

Please join me in signing this petition to stop the BLM from killing our wild horses and driving them to extinction: http://go.care2.com/e/81zW/VTif/AozOv

Thanks!
